Here's a nice and straight forward Ibuki portrait! I painted this up as my second attempt at "gradient mapping" from a grayscale image.
I found my groove a lot more here when it came to coloring, but the process was still a little rough.

Ultimately I feel like the gradient map and initial colors you place on the "color layer" should be treated the same way as flatting for the most part.
The final colors will come via paint over and touch ups as you would any other piece ~ my experience thus far.
